Pass it on – let’s build thousands of paper Optimists around the world

Materials necessary to build your own Optimist:

  1. Three A4 pieces of paper (preferably from a technical block)
  2. A printer – black and white or color – remember that you decide how colorful your sailboat will be.
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue stick ( it will definitely suffice)
  5. A ruler
  6. Crayons, markers (crayons will do the work before you assemble the model, markers will come in handy if you decide to color the model after assembly)
  7. A stick to make a mast (shish kebab stick will be useful but remember to cut off the sharp end of the stick)
  8. A bit of plasticine/modeling clay (you will make a step/nest from it under the bench so that the mast stands firmly in the model)
  9. Ask your parent to cut out a slot for the centreboard in the bottom of the hull with a wallpaper knife (in the place where the centreboard case is stuck)

If you’re a sailor, go a step further. Make the rest of the Optimist?s equipment out of paper: sheets, ballast belts, a bailer, a paddle, a pennant, telltales, a sail window, a bow line, trolley, a timer or a tiller extension. We are looking forward to your photos.
